Equipment List

For those interested, this list of equipment will give you an idea of what I have to work with. Granted it isn't the most elaborate setup, as I am on a budget, but it contains some prized material that I have acquired over the years.

First I should mention my Korg D-8 digital 8-track because it receives all of my transmissions.
Next is my Apple iBook G3, which houses my frequently used software (namely Reason 3.0 and Ableton Live 4.0)
Connected to that is my M-Audio O2 MIDI controller keyboard
and Korg padKontrol MIDI drum pad controller.

As for synthesizers, we have:
Alesis Micron analog synthesizer
and the ever-popular Korg Microkorg analog synthesizer

Sampler:
Boss SP-404 (upgraded from the classic SP-303)

Pedals/whatnot:
Korg Kaoss Pad KP-2
Korg Kaoss Pad Mini
Akai Headrush E-1
Akai Headrush E-2
Electroharmonix Metal Muff distortion
Boss Digital Delay DD-6

Most of the main items go into an Alesis MultiFX 6 channel mixer, (with pedals on auxiliary) which outs to the Headrush pedals,
and then for PC recording I use a Lexicon Alpha amp/2 channel mixer

I also on occasion have been known to use my Yamaha PSR-172 digital keyboard
and Glockenspeil
along with two Hohner melodicas.

Complete Discography

While I am currently planning on compiling an album of sorts for this year, mainly featuring whatever I have done since my last "official" album, I would like to offer a general description of my work that can be listened to (and hopefully enjoyed) for free. Let's start with the oldest...

Slightly Serious - Full-length, 2004 - Download
I begin with this release because any other album I have "released" before this (and there were many) detailed a time when I knew next to nothing about mixing or equalization. So with this one I actually took my time to make it physically listenable, although I don't think that people liked it as much because it was on the rather slow side. 2004 also marked the height of my "hip hop years," with this one representing a much more downtempo feel.

Self-titled, I guess - Full-length, 2005 - Download
The previous title to this was "Mr. President," unofficially released with a slightly different track listing. These first couple of releases also demonstrate my interest in creating real cover art and packaging. It was done on a budget, so not much can be expected of it. A few copies may still even floating around Rhode Island. Anyway, these beats are much more mixed, featuring a few more experimental songs, which also marks the end of my Cubase days.

Melancholy - Full-length, 2007 - Download
My first non-Cubase produced album; also my first ambient album. What happened in 2006, you might say? Well, I'm not really sure other than the fact that I was acquiring real equipment and learning how to record using a digital 8-track. The idea for this came from a newfound interest and love in some of the more obscure ambient coming out of the independent electronica scene.

Something For Now - Full-length, 2008 - Download
As somewhat of a compliment to Melancholy, this album represents the actual beats I was making in between, and with a lot of genre-bending. I had intended for a bigger release of this, but unfortunately school got in the way of that (or just lack of motivation/confidence). There are some more perfected ambient songs on this, as well as songs I made specifically for my rapper friend Chris. I also try dub for the first time.

Love and Death - Double EP, 2008 - Download
This one came as a bit of a surprise. First off, I was really happy with the songs I had made prior to and a little bit into the summer of 2008. I wanted this to be half beats and half ambient. The beats leaned more towards minimal techno and pop, while the ambient side was a noisier-than-usual attempt at creating texture. Somewhere along the line though I got really discouraged about the quality of the songs and decided to just cut the whole thing short and release it strictly online. I doubt anyone listened to it as a result, but whatever I kept on here I couldn't seem to let go of. So I guess this one was somewhat of a failure. As you can see, however, the year 2008 also marked a shift into more experimenting.

Something For Now [Summer Edition] - Re-issue with bonus tracks, 2008 - Download
Okay, so this was me reviving my interest in making Something For Now a big release, with five or so bonus tracks to boot. I only titled it "Summer Edition" because I was hoping to have it finished before the end of summer. It was actually finished closer to October. The bonus tracks comprised of beats I had made that I had nothing to do with or were too good to put on Love and Death. In fact, I think there might even be one or two tracks from that album on here.

This next "album" I have in mind may resemble Love and Death more than anything, in the sense that it will be mixed beats and ambient that I may or may not be entirely happy with (we'll see). It probably won't hit the full-length mark, but it will definitely be a step up from (or to the side of) what I am used to making or what I have been making. Basically, I have had the intention to branch out since day one, and this, if anything comes of it, will represent yet another manifestation of that goal.

Introduction

Welcome to DEAD MONEY Productions. Here you will find free music downloads (full albums and songs) from one single artist, myself, who frequently experiments with several different genres of electronic music. As a result, I have acquired many pseudonyms, but all are featured under the umbrella of what I like to call "Dead Money" (a name that came to me in a dream). From hip hop to dub to ambient to house to pop, it is difficult to say which style of music I find most enjoyable to make. So this place here will serve as a personal space -- a place where I can collect and rearrange my music on paper, as it were. I will probably be expressing some deeper thoughts as well on music in general; for example, what might be inspirational to me at any given moment, or maybe just mentioning a worthy release or live show. Feel free to contact me and share your thoughts. All files will be hosted by www.kalinism.com, and for that I have Kalin Christian to thank.
